DMC-Carter Chambers Gets Fit - Monday, January 17, 2011
|
On January 7, DMC-Carter Chambers sent seven runners and one driver to represent our company during a 191.0 mile race known as the Ragnar Relay. This particular race started in Miami, Florida and ended in Key West. As part of the Pon Fit program, Pon & PVI sponsored three teams of 12, with members from W&O Supply, Equipment Depot and DMC-Carter Chambers all running various distances to complete the course. This event gave our teams unique opportunities to run, ocean side, across the southern end of the state of Florida.
During the relay, each team member ran three legs, ranging from 3 to 11 miles, varying in difficulty. Through months of training, our teams accomplished these distances with finesse. Each team was allowed two support vehicles. The first vehicle dropped off the first runner, drove ahead, cheered on the runner, and provided water, snacks and encouragement. That vehicle then drove ahead to the ‘exchange point’ to drop off the second runner and pick up the first. This pattern continued until the finish line.
Finishing at 31 hours, 11 minutes, and 27 seconds with a pace of 9.79 was PVI Explorer I. DMC-CC & PVI’ers’ on this team were Brandy Piazza, Clarence (CJ) Johnson, Jack Guidry (PVI) and Colleen McDermott. Close behind, was Pon’s Power finishing in 31 hours, 57 minutes and 30 seconds with a pace of 10.04. Members on this team included Reneé Mallar, Howard Jordan, Jason Lee, Steve Berthelot and Taylor Clay (driver).
